Congratulations! You’ve either recently launched a new website, or you’re getting ready to launch. With a new website launch comes a great deal of hard work, dedication, and hours spent perfecting your new site. Between selecting the perfect imagery that represents your brand and fine-tuning the content, to the development and user experience, it’s a sigh of relief when all these moving parts come together.

When it comes time for your new website launch, there are a few external strategies that can maximize your launch, and help your new site gain traction on search engines.

Google My Business
Did you know 49% of businesses receive more than 1,000 views on search each month? If you’re a small business owner, you should already have an active Google My Business (GMB) listing. GMB listings increase brand awareness, boosts conversions, and helps users find your business. Your GMB profile will include vital information like your hours of operations, address, phone number, your website, and more. As soon as your new website launches, you’ll want to add the link to your new website, so users can easily access your website. This also goes for additional listings – such as Yelp, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Remember – the more links and coverage you have, the better! You want your website to be as visible as possible (especially since it’s a brand-new website!). Add your new URL to all your social media platforms and search listings.

Social Announcement

Have you scheduled a post for social media channels? You’ll want to make your website launch announcement a priority. Include a link in your new website, as well as a screenshot or scrolling video of your homepage. We recommend posting on all social channels – including Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Don’t be afraid to post about your new website more than once! As long as the posts are spread out and have unique content and graphics, we recommend getting as much coverage as possible. Consider a post with a snapshot of your homepage, and another post with a scrolling video, as seen below!

Off-Page SEO

Off-page SEO is ranking factors that are outside your control, whereas on-page SEO are things in your control, like linking, keyphrase repetition, and website speed. How does this contribute to your new website launch? When building a website, you have on-page SEO in your control – but, that’s not all Google takes into consideration with its ranking algorithm. Having a blend of strong on-page and off-page SEO is what makes for a well-performing website.

Off-page SEO is achieved through things like backlinks (external websites linking to your website), the authority of these links, topical relevancy, NAP, and much more. Do you have any relationships with reputable businesses? For example, are you part of any associations, partnerships, sponsorships, or chambers of commerce? Scoring a link on their website will help build authority in yours, resulting in increased search engine rankings. Websites that have a .gov, .edu, and .org will be more authoritative than .com. Just make sure the businesses are actually relevant to your business, as Google also reads relevance.

Lastly, make sure your NAP (name, address, phone number) information is consistent across all social media profiles, GMB, and your website. This means every detail down to whether you spell out Street or abbreviate it to St.

Remember – Google likes consistency.
